On the evening of 8th October, selected musicians and Junior Consort gave a varied and entertaining concert as part of the Calne Music & Arts’ Festival at Marden House.

The performances included memorable music from popular musicals including Oliver! and My Fair Lady, and songs by Jerome Kern, Richard Rodney Bennett  and Thomas Arne.  Soloists Sophie, Isabella, Iona, Evie, Sadie, Iris, Elyse, Hannah and Hannah delighted the capacity audience. Instrumentalists Laura, Tessa and Lydia played Debussy, Finzi and Mike Cornick with lyricism and aplomb.  As a celebration of the centenary of Hubert Parry’s death, Junior Consort soloists sang three songs from the extensive song repertory of Parry’s English Lyrics, interspersed with contemporary seasonal pieces by Nic Mulhy and Jonathan Dove from the Snape Maltings Friday Afternoons’ Project.  Mrs Dudley Fryar invited the audience to join in a rousing finale – again celebrating Parry’s music with the evergreen Jerusalem. Mr Totney accompanied with his usual flair and the whole evening was a delightful musical soirée.
