MIV Form enjoy Chocolate Enterprise Activity

As part of the Personal Development Programme all pupils in the MIV Form took part in the Chocolate Enterprise Activity one Friday afternoon in June. The aim of the activity was to learn more about Enterprise and develop business skills including the skills of leadership, communication, numercy, creativity, team work and presentation.

On Thursday 20th March, St Mary’s Bright Futures Society hosted their first Careers event under their new President, Claudia (LVI Form). The committee is entirely made up of pupils who have volunteered to become Committee Members.

Waste Wednesday

The girls in Eco Group are working towards reducing the amount of paper waste St Mary's sends to landfill. To highlight this they encouraged everyone to use the boxes placed in classrooms on 'Waste Wednesday' (Wednesday 26th March) in order to illustrate how much should be recycled in just one day.

Angry Birds - Science Competition

Physics Teacher, Miss Sophie Constantine, gave a very entertaining and illuminating talk in Chapel recently, when she spoke about the cultural phenomenen that is Angry Birds, and the simple physics of projectile motion that it is based on. Invented in 2009 by a Finnish company, the app has been downloaded over 300 million times.

Remembering Calne Girl, Gladys Beale

Gladys Beale (1907-2014) died on Tuesday 18th March.  Gladys was a pupil at St Mary's Calne from 1921 to 1926 whilst Marcia Matthews was Headmistress. After leaving St Mary's she taught in various prep schools for eleven years. She started her own school in Minchinhampton in September 1942, and continued to educate local children to a very high standard until her retirement in 1977.

To celebrate National Science and Engineering Week, the LIV and MIV Forms have been competing in a bridge building competition in their Science lessons. Given a brief to design, construct and test a bridge, they have entered into the competition with enthusiasm, displaying lots of engineering skills!

Success at Marlborough’s St Patty’s Invitational

This past weekend the St Mary’s 1st XII, 2nd XII, U15 and U14 teams attended Marlborough’s St Patrick’s Day Invitational Lacrosse Tournament. The round robin tournament consisted of teams from Marlborough, Wellington, Cheltenham Ladies’ College, Rendcomb College and Westonbirt. As the final fixture in the 2013/2014 lacrosse season, all teams were striving for victory.

The girls from Moberly and Poore Companies decided to raise money for their respective charities, Water Aid and Dorothy House. We decided to do a sponsored spin - 1,437kms which is the equivalent of Land's End to John O'Groats.
