Girls at leading independent girls’ school St Mary’s Calne are celebrating following some excellent GCSE Level results, with 89% of all entries graded A*-B.

St Mary's Calne girls captain English and Welsh National Lacrosse Teams

On Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th August, UVI Form 2014 leavers Emily Clarke and Annabel Wright, along with LV Form pupil, Iona, competed at an U19 ‘Friendly’ National Lacrosse Tournament held in Liverpool. Annabel captained the Welsh A Team, while Emily was picked as one of three captains for the English B Team.

The girls are celebrating following their excellent A Level results, with 31% of all entries graded A*, 66% A*-A, and 91% A*-B.  Many  congratulations to all the girls!

On 12th July, Yasmin (LV Form) and Grace (UIV Form) travelled to Birmingham Alexander Stadium to compete in the national finals of the English Schools' Athletics Championships.

An Evening with Roald Dahl was a performance of three of Dahl’s finest stories: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Witches and Matilda, and four of his witty revolting rhymes.

LVI Form girl to aid Children's Charity in Belarus

LVI Form girl, Tesni, has volunteered to work for a charity, the Zaslowya Project, for ten days at the end of July in Belarus.  There Tesni will be working with a small team at a Musical Summer Camp, playing her cello, helping with the orchestra and translating (Tesni has been learning Russian for several years).

Greek Scholars enjoy 'Antigone' at Bradfield College

On Thursday 26th June, 14 Greek scholars from St Mary's watched Antigone in the original Classical Greek at Bradfield College.  Bradfield have recently refurbished their authentic Greek Theatre and it was the perfect location to see this very interesting play which debates the rights of individuals over those of the state.

Geography Fieldtrip to Krakow, Poland, a huge success

Thursday 26th June: The LV and LVI Form girls going on the Geography Fieldtrip still managed to create a semblance of a buzz at the 2am departure from St Mary’s in spite of the unsociable hour. Sleep soon took over, however, and the coach descended into silence until our arrival at Gatwick. Check in and boarding all went smoothly and we were soon off on the unexpectedly brief flight to Pope John Paul airport in Krakow, Poland.

The Equestrian girls had a different type of event on the evening of 30th June. Helen Cole (Stockley Farm) very kindly put on an end of term event with a difference - the girls had to ride Donkeys for a Donkey Derby!

LVI Form Historians help out at Chalke Valley History Festival

From 23rd to 29th June, armed with matching t-shirts, lanyards and wellies, five LVI Form Historians volunteered to work at the Chalke Valley History Festival. They loved every minute, and would recommend it to anyone and everyone.
