U12s win South West Schools Lacrosse Tournament

After a successful and an unbeaten season, it was clear that we could do well with this great little team and all of the U12s were looking forward to competing.

We got off to an impressive start with three consecutive caught passes from the centre draw and a high non-stick catch, quickly converted into a goal by Lila in the opening minute. Surely it had to be our day! The morning matches continued without incident and, thanks to some solid team performances, we went into the afternoon as winners of our section.

We knew our first match against section 1 winners, St Swithun's, was probably going to be our toughest match, and with a slightly depleted squad due to the Exeat Weekend, this proved to be a good thing. St Swithun's looked tall, athletic and skilful, but we went two goals up thanks to Lizzie and we were in control. However, St Swithun's came back hard, driving the ball as we began to throw away possession, and they equalised with two quick goals. We dug deep and with some true grit and determination our options opened up, and Polly passed to Elsa who found the back of the net with what proved to be the crucial goal to win us the tournament - as we then went on to draw with Downe House - conceding an equalising goal in the dying seconds. Legs were tiring and bodies flaking and our 3-0 win over St Barts was not pretty!  We hit the post, shot wide, ball-watched and gave away free positions but fortunately we had done enough to win the match and the U12 Premiership Division and were crowned very worthy South West Lacrosse Champions. Many congratulations to all the girls!
