Girls deliver excellent EPQ presentations

On Monday 9th March, two UVI Form girls gave their Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) presentations to Head of Sixth Form, Miss Aherne, and Head of History, Government & Politics, Miss Gisborne.

After a successful and an unbeaten season, it was clear that we could do well with this great little team and all of the U12s were looking forward to competing.

Girls hone public speaking skills at Regional Final

Further to their win at the first round of the English Speaking Union's Public Speaking Competition in January, on Sunday 8th March, Alice, Clara and Athina (LV Form) set off with Father Jonathan and Ms Aherne for Blundell's School in Tiverton, Devon for the South West Regional Final.

Classical capers in Turkey!

A small group of St Mary's classical enthusiasts set off in the early hours of 5th March for our trip to Turkey.  The flight was so punctual that we had time to have an impromptu drive along the Bosphorus to see The Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia.

As the first 3rd Team to represent St Mary's at a National Schools Tournament, the girls were excited at the prospect of representing their school. Being unbeaten across all school matches, our confidence was high.

Girls learn how to shake off nerves in a Music Masterclass

Pupils from the Fifth and Sixth Form music classes were invited to participate in a performance masterclass run by Old Girl Charlotte Tomlinson.  Now a freelance professional musician, Tomlinson advises at schools and universities around the country, with a trip planned to universities and conservatoires in the Far East and Australia in September.

LVI Form inspired by Careers Conference

Thorough planning and faultless organisation by Mrs Mastin- Lee ensured that this day - the LVI Form Careers Conference 2015 Inspiring Women - was a very valuable experience for all of our LVI Form pupils. Our panel of truly inspiring women from a number of different career fields including Law, Medicine, Social Sciences, Engineering, Banking and Finance, Fashion and Design, the Army and Civil Service, and a lecture by Penny Dowell from Bristol University on the options available to students who are still unsure about what to do, meant that there was something for everyone.

Lights, camera, action!

As part of their Enrichment Week, on Tuesday 10th February, the MIV Form  enjoyed a film day, where they learnt about different film genres, the first film compared to other films from their era, camera skills, how to write a script, stage fighting, how to plan different scenes, and how to shoot short films.
