Girls storm to victory in Debating competition

English Speaking Union DebateOn the evening of 2nd December, two UVI Form girls, Eleanor and Juliet, emerged the winners of round one of the English Speaking Union Mace Debating competition, a prestigious national competition.

The girls were proposing the motion that 'this House would only imprison violent offenders, and would give all non-violent offenders non-custodial sentences'. The debate was against the Royal High School in Bath and the girls were asked some very searching questions from both the opposition and the floor; they are to be congratulated for not only delivering impressive speeches but engaging in these difficult questions and succeeding.

The girls will be going on to round two of the competition in the new year.
