Company Shout raises the roof!

Company ShoutThe five Companies once again battled for victory at the annual Company Music Festival on Friday 9th October. An afternoon of varied and impressive solo performances by singers, piano, brass, woodwind and string players was followed by instrumental and vocal ensemble categories, with the Company Shout, which involved every girl in the school, providing the jewel in the crown.

Dan Snow LectureOn Tuesday 6th October, the popular historian and broadcaster Dan Snow gave a lecture to girls in the Sixth Form, their parents and members of the wider public on history’s importance today using historical events from the Napoleonic Wars to the Falkland’s War in order to highlight the relevance of past events, today.

Classics WorkshopOn 1st October St Mary’s hosted a workshop led by 'Theatrical Niche'. GCSE and A Level students from Dauntsey’s School and St Mary’s studying Aristophanes explored the question of how to make an ancient play such as the Lysistrata accessible and relevant to the modern stage.

Sixth Form On Saturday 26th September, we hosted our Sixth Form Fair. The UV Form, prospective Sixth Form students from across the UK and their parents were welcomed by the UVI Form. The aim of the event is twofold; to share the spirit of the St Mary's Sixth Form and to begin to think about Sixth Form subject choices.

Careers Networking Evening a huge success

Careers Networking EventFollowing the success of last year’s inaugural event, this year saw a slightly tweaked format which placed a much firmer emphasis on UV Form girls and those in LVI Form who had a specific interest in the career areas represented. This led to a very focused evening on 25th September during which the girls got the opportunity to meet and talk with representatives from seventeen business areas and careers.

UVI Linguists visit University of Bristol

Bristol MFLOn Monday 21st September, the UVI linguists and some staff form the MFL Department went to Marlborough College to take part in an event run by Bristol University's MFL Department.  The Department had sent ten Professors and Lecturers to run Masterclasses in a variety of languages, and the pupils were able to choose a cultural lecture, a language class and also try a new language in the ab initio taster sessions.
