On 5th December, the English Department was delighted to welcome performance poet, Luke Wright, into school.
He gave a highly entertaining, hour-long performance to the older girls and opened more than a few eyes as to what poetry in the 21st century can do. Luke performs across the country and has appeared at the Edinburgh Festival numerous times; last summer he was to be found at the Port Eliot Festival. He has published two collections of poetry and was able to pass on insightful ideas to many of the girls in subsequent poetry workshops. Here, minds were tested to produce poems using words that contained a single vowel. Luke astounded the audience by performing a narrative poem of his, only containing the vowel 'o'. His wit was obvious to all and his visit has provided girls with plenty to consider in their own poetical musings.
