It’s going to be a busy first few days of the holiday for Tessa (MIV), Belinda and Lauren (both LV), as they embark on a fundraising bid to help launch their church choir’s tour to Latvia. The three girls are all members of the choir at St John’s Church, Devizes, which is widely regarded by many as the leading Parish Church Choir in the Diocese of Salisbury. Having sung in eight different cathedrals and made two recordings over the past three years, the choir has now been nominated to go out to Latvia next August to help strengthen a link which has been steadily developing between the Diocese of Salisbury and the church in Latvia. They are scheduled to sing at a special service at their namesake church of St John the Baptist in Cesis, as well as giving a concert in Riga Cathedral.
In order to make the trip a reality, however, the choir’s members, which include 23 children from a variety of different backgrounds, will need to raise at least £14,000. They will begin the challenge this festive season by going Carol Singing around Devizes on three occasions, as well as leading the singing at five high-profile Christmas services in their church. The first event is this Saturday, 16th December, from 11am to 2pm and they would be delighted to have your support if you should happen to be anywhere near the Devizes area at the time. You can support Tessa, Belinda, Lauren and the rest of the choir in their endeavours at any time by donating via the choir’s JustGiving page – every penny counts and any gift received, no matter how small, will go a long way to providing many of the children in the choir with what will very likely turn out to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Thank you very much indeed for your support.
