This week, our junior art club, Art Palette Pals, enjoyed a session of ‘en plein air’ painting in the sunshine, taking inspiration from Van Gogh’s landscapes and the beauty of the Lime Kiln Garden.
Two members of the art club said of the experience:
‘Something I liked most about painting outside was that it is ‘real’. You’re not painting off a picture or collage, you’re painting something that is real, that is alive. It was a challenge to paint in the wind and my painting blew over a few times, but that’s the fun of it.’ Daisy T, LVI
‘Painting outside in the beautiful sunshine was amazing because we could let the lovely day and wonderful garden inspire our artwork. Everything was nicely set up and painting in the style of Vincent van Gogh helped us learn, leading in a new direction and style which was really refreshing and interesting to try out. The brilliant and sunny day really set a great atmosphere for creating some paintings.’ Christabel W, LIV
Art Palette Pals is a lunchtime club for Fourth Form pupils. Over the past year, the club has enjoyed a whole range of creative activities, including exploring sketching and painting techniques. This is the first time they have painted out in the open air.
