Having been so impressed by all of the pupils who committed poetry to their hearts for the class heats and school finals of the Poetry by Heart Competition, we were delighted to hear that Christabel W (LIV) and Jemima J (LV) were each awarded ‘Best in County’ for their age group in the Classic Competition.
Christabel impressed judges with her energetic recital of William Blake’s The Tyger’ and Carol Ann Duffy’s beautiful poem, December, while Jemima regaled the panel with her comic rendition of Wendy Cope’s First Date and the poignant When we two parted by Lord Byron.
A special mention must also go to Mrs Sharon Durant, who was awarded ‘Highly Commended’ for her emotive recital of Oxymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley.
