Beginning of Term: Tatler, trials and lots of tea

Only a week has passed and already we are making ourselves very at home in our incredible new Sixth Form centre. The much-anticipated en-suite bathrooms have not disappointed and as we write this we are sipping freshly brewed teas and cappuccinos and nibbling home-made cake in House. For a year group as food-obsessed as we are, our own in-house catering facilities have definitely become the hub of the boarding house. When we’re not eating, we’ve been working on our personal statements and developing our UCAS applications, which are proving a little more challenging than expected, but we do feel progress is being made.

For the sporty types among us, trials are well under way. Ollie and Sophie suffered a bit of a shock to the system with their first lacrosse tournament this weekend after a somewhat ‘relaxing’ summer. Fortunately, our new House is right next to the Gym so theoretically our stamina on the pitch should improve! However, Ollie’s team was victorious overall – an amazing achievement given how early in the season it is.

On Tuesday night, (actually they started getting ready at lunchtime… any opportunity to get dressed up!) Emilia and Sophie took a break from hectic school life and were chauffeured with Dr Kirk to the 10th Annual Tatler School Awards at the Dorchester Hotel in London. Over champagne and exquisite canapés, we mingled with fellow school leaders, chatted with Tatler employees, and managed to get a photo taken along the way. Despite a lack of trophies this time round, it was a great opportunity to pretend that we are mature, sociable and sophisticated! With students from all over the UK (as far as Aberdeen) we were able to get a comparative insight into life at other schools, and got some great ideas which we look to implement in the future. All in all, it has definitely been a fun but fattening first week of term!
