English Competition Opportunity

  • Post category:English

During the year, we will be publicising prestigious writing competition opportunities with the aim of encouraging girls to enter.

This first one is the only creative writing competition specifically for budding historical fiction writers, with entries judged in two categories – 11-15 years and 16-19 years.

They are looking for stories with historical relevance and accuracy, originality, a good grasp of language, characterisation and plot – but above all enjoyment in your writing. The fiction can be in any form – prose, poetry, drama, fictional diaries, letters or reportage.

Now accepting entries, the competition closes on 1st November 2021. You could win a £500 travel grant, an invitation to one of the UK’s best book festivals, and a chance to see your own work in print. Stories must be between 800 and 2,000 words, and set in a time before you were born. See the link below for more information.

Please do approach your English or History teacher for any help in entering this competition – we would be delighted to support your writerly efforts!
