LV Animal Sculptures

  • Post category:General

The LV art students have been studying animals this term, inspired by the work of artists Sally Muir, David Hockney and Sally Matthews.  Alterinating between lessons in 2D and 3D has considerably helped the girls familiarise themselves with animal forms.

All eyes have been on the wire animal sculptures that are beginning to take shape in the studios. Each student has a model on which her sculpture is based. Studying the anatomy in detail, they are gradually building up a wire armature, which will be soldified with chicken wire, meshing and  a plaster outer-layer. The project is challenging their ability to construct a 3D model from scratch; analysing the form and making informed decisions about size, scale and giving their sculpture a character- shown in the body language they will create.

Keep an eye on the blog to follow their progress!
