We’ve just been put in our new roles and are raring to get going. Rebecca (or Becca, as she prefers to be called) – our new Head Girl – has ably taken up the reins from Sophie, helped by her deputies Sophie and Rosie. With exams looming on the horizon, stress levels in Joyce Walters House are rising, but we still have time for fun!
This term has been one of socials, concerts and sporting ventures. Becca recently got back from the National School Lacrosse Championships, whilst Rosie has been honing her classical skills in Sicily over the Exeat and Sophie has travelled to RADA in London to present a dramatic speech on gender selection. As well as this, we have been looking to the future. With university applications and career choices just around the corner, the school has organised several successful careers lectures and workshops, one of which took place last weekend.
The Leadership and Team Building Workshop was designed to make us re-evaluate our own skills and strengthen our ability to work in a team. Through a series of somewhat difficult challenges, including a seemingly impossible quiz, building a picture of a lego dolphin from memory (which, the session leader said, we did very well at, considering her last group who attempted this became ‘screaming banshees’ towards the end!) and designing and presenting a T-shirt in five minutes, we aimed to keep calm, work together and problem solve effectively. Working in strategically allocated groups decided by Mrs Foreman meant that we worked with different people and learnt lots about each other in the process, for example, who was a natural leader and who preferred to work behind the scenes. With chocolate as incentives, we all worked really hard to complete the challenges, and our team skills definitely improved, as did our leadership skills, which will definitely help us in our new roles on the Senior Team. Overall it was a very informative and useful morning, which has benefited us hugely.
