St Mary’s Calne welcomed an enthusiastic audience of more than 200 people for the 2026 Dance Showcase, an evening bursting with colour, energy and community spirit.
This year’s ‘carnival’ themed event celebrated global cultures through dynamic music and movement, brought to life by dedicated performers from St Mary’s Calne, St Margaret’s Calne, Heddington Primary and Saint Edmund’s Primary schools.
Over the past six weeks, Dance Leaders have been busy choreographing and leading sessions across local primary schools, as well as working with Fourth Form pupils in dance sessions. Their hard work, teamwork and creativity culminated in a series of lively performances that showcased both developing talent and growing confidence on stage.
Dance Leader, Cosima L (LV), said of the experience:
‘During our Dance Leader sessions, my group and I learned about planning and leading and over the term we formed close bonds with each other and the children we were working with. I always felt so excited whenever Sophia, Rei Rei and I got into the minibus to travel to St Edmund’s. It was such an enjoyable experience and we were so lucky to have this opportunity.’
The event was supported by an exceptional team of presenters, tech crew and backstage helpers, all contributing to a seamless and memorable showcase. For many of the young performers – some completely new to dance – taking to the stage was a significant achievement and a moment of real pride.
With the success of this year’s showcase, St Mary’s looks forward to continuing dance enrichment opportunities across local schools.
