Having celebrated our first year as a unit, 4th Calne (St Mary’s Calne) Guides and Rangers have continued to offer girls the chance to learn new skills, make friends, and have fun. This term, the girls enjoyed a wide variety of activities – from making biscuit tents (think miniature gingerbread houses) to exploring their own personalities, understanding healthy relationships, and even learning about data encryption.
Beyond the meetings themselves, the girls proudly represented the school and unit at the town Remembrance Day parade and the District Christingle service, alongside the wider Girlguiding district of Calne and the Scouts.
We were thrilled to welcome new members in September and see returning Guides and Rangers back in action. Two Rangers renewed their promises, and seven girls made their Guide promises for the first time. This term also saw a number of achievements celebrated: all girls earned their Level 5 Network Skills Builder from the Know Myself theme, most earned the Codebreaking badge, and one Ranger, Miya (LV), gained her Nostalgia and World Guiding badges. A special congratulations goes to three MIV Guides—Liliana, Lucy, and Lilly — who achieved the Skills for My Future Theme Award. To earn a theme award, the girls complete an interest badge, a skills builder, and 240 minutes of activities all from the same theme — a truly impressive accomplishment.
Looking ahead to next year, we are excited for more adventures, including firelighting, Thinking Day celebrations in February with the wider District, and the annual Guide camp, held jointly with 1st Calne Guides. If your daughter would like to join our merry bunch, she can sign up online—just make sure to enter the school’s postcode so she finds the right unit.
