We are delighted to congratulate our talented senior mathematicians on their outstanding successes in the recent series of mathematics challenges set by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT), the UK’s leading charity dedicated to advancing the mathematical education of young people.

The UKMT Senior Challenges are aimed at students in Year 13 and below. Beginning with the Senior Maths Challenge and progressing through to the Kangaroo and Olympiad rounds, these competitions are designed to stretch and inspire students, offering increasingly demanding problems that go beyond A Level for the most gifted young mathematicians.

‘I am incredibly proud of the dedication and problem-solving skills shown by our students throughout these challenges set by the UK Maths Trust. Their achievements reflect not only mathematical skill but also a genuine love of problem-solving. Congratulations to all who took part.’ Mr Benn Griffin, Maths Teacher

Maths Challenge for Girls
The academic year opened with the Maths Challenge for Girls, a rigorous two-hour paper sat by students across the UK. We are proud to congratulate the following Lower Sixth students, on achieving a Merit:
Phoebe C, Lotte H-T, Nina T, Lingyan Z

The following students achieved a Distinction:
Selina Z (LV), Jessica J, Myra L, Haylie M, Belle R, Bella S, Sarah W, Amy W

Senior Maths Challenge
The next stage in advanced mathematical problem-solving is the Senior Maths Challenge. We extend warm congratulations to the following students who rose admirably to the challenge:

Bronze Award: Nara S, Nina T, (both Lower Sixth) Sofia dP, Baylee E, Ottilie L-L, Ellie P, Sophie T (all Upper Sixth).
Silver Award: Amy W (Lower Sixth), Beattie B, Allison L, Liana O-R, Mona P, Emily Z (all Upper Sixth).
Gold Award: Selina Z (LV), Jessica J, Sarah W (both Lower Sixth), Bianca L, Nina L, Nadya N (all Upper Sixth).

Andrew Jobbings Senior Kangaroo
Beyond the Challenge lies the Andrew Jobbings Kangaroo, an invitation-only competition for high-scoring students. Many congratulations to the following award winners:

Bronze Award: Nina L, Bianca L (both Upper Sixth)
Silver Award: Nadya N (UVI), Fiona W (UV)

British Mathematical Olympiad
The pinnacle of UKMT competitions is the British Mathematical Olympiad (BMO). At this level, even our talented Mathematics Department may pause for thought before reaching a solution. The BMO is a demanding three-and-a-half-hour paper requiring deep reasoning and creativity.

We are immensely proud of Jessica J, Lower Sixth, who was invited to take the paper this year. We now eagerly await her result.

Mathematics challenges for other year groups will commence in the New Year, with the Intermediate papers for the fifth form scheduled for January 2026 and the fourth form in April 2026. We wish all participating students the very best of luck.
