On Friday 5 December, the Upper Sixth hosted the annual St Mary’s Calne Charity Fashion Show in aid of Loving Humanity.

Loving Humanity is an inspiring charity that supports those affected by period poverty around the world. As an all-girls school, we feel especially passionate about this cause and giving girls across communities education and empowerment. We were lucky enough to have Amy Peake, the founder, come and speak to us on the night of the fashion show. I think everyone who was there can agree she is such an inspirational woman and that Loving Humanity is such an amazing cause to support.

After Amy gave us all her best impromptu catwalk, it was time to begin the show! Spectators were greeted by a red carpet, drinks, and sweets – kindly provided by Mrs Malhotra (the sale of which helped us raise around £300 alone!) – eagerly awaited the first year group to strut down the runway to the overall theme of Met Calna. This theme produced amazing costumes inspired by previous Met Galas: from British icons (Claudia Winkleman was a particular highlight!), to superheroes, to aliens and animals, as well as all things fairytales and cubism – everybody had an outfit to impress and it was amazing to see how much effort everyone had put in.

As always, ‘Trashion’ stole the show as girls strutted down the catwalk in impressive outfits made entirely from ‘rubbish’. We had dresses made from newspapers, skirts made of plastic bags and an incredible dress and headpiece made from sweet wrappers that Liv and Eve (Upper Sixth) had collected since the beginning of term.

From student tickets alone, we raised nearly £1000, an amazing achievement. We hope to raise even more so that we can support Amy’s amazing charity as much as possible, so please see the just giving link below if you would like to help.

It was such an amazing evening of fashion, fizz, and fun with parents, staff and girls from all year groups attending. It was so rewarding to see all of our hard work pay off; thank you to all those who helped make this night as special as it was, and well done to everyone who walked.

Professional photos taken at the event will be made available in January.
