Double celebration for multi-award-winning author and English teacher, Mrs Catherine Bruton

Congratulations to Mrs Catherine Bruton, multi-award-winning author and member of the St Mary’s Calne English Department, who is enjoying a double celebration.

Firstly, her new novel, Tadpole Summer, is published today, which she is launching with an extensive book shop tour. We are also delighted to share that Mrs Bruton will receive a Fellowship of The English Association in June, joining a distinguished group of authors, academics, educators, librarians, journalists, publishers and editors. The Fellowship recognises ‘distinguished service to English’ across areas including literature, language, creative writing, the promotion of reading, inspirational teaching, and encouraging creativity in others. Mrs Bruton will be formally presented with the Fellowship at a special ceremony in June.

Speaking about the Fellowship, Mrs Bruton said: ‘I feel so honoured to be in the company of people like Michael Morpurgo and Katherine Rundell.’

Mrs Anne Wakefield, St Mary’s Head, said: ‘We are so fortunate to have teachers who are not only experts in their field, but also passionate about sharing their love of their subject with our pupils. I am delighted that Mrs Bruton is to receive external recognition for doing this when she is awarded a Fellowship of the English Association in June.’

Tadpole Summer is Catherine Bruton’s latest novel and follows the multi-award-winning No Ballet Shoes in Syria and Bird Boy. The story explores sibling love, loss, healing and hope through the lives of Frog and her younger brother Tad, who lives with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA-PME).
