Congratulations to sisters Jemima (LV) and Matilda (MIV) who celebrated double creative writing success in the 2026 Devizes Eisteddfod Creative Arts Festival.
Jemima scooped the Class Winner in the Year 10/11 Short Story Category, earning her the coveted Young Writers Cup for her beautiful short story The Gas Mask, a poignant depiction of wartime in Jersey. Not content with just one trophy, her poem Her Exalted Eyes also won the cup in the Year 10/ 11 poetry category.
Not to be outdone by her elder sibling, Matilda’ s short story The Spiral Secret, a mysterious gothic tale, achieved ‘Exceptional’ category and was awarded Class Winner in the Year 7 – 9 Short Story category, earning her the Devizes Eisteddfod Plaque. Meanwhile, her poem The Masked Ball achieved ‘Commended’ in the poetry class.
The classes were adjudicated by a local author who shared some insightful observations on the writing process, and was full of praise for the winning pieces.
The sisters also embraced other areas of the competition, entering the Photography classes, where they achieving ‘Honours’ category, and the Music section of the festival where they were Class Winners for their Violin String Duet (15 & under).
The sisters collected their Creative Arts Awards at the Festival presentation ceremony before the Easter break.
