Drama pupils discover the magic of the West End production of ‘My Neighbour Totoro’

UIV (Year 9) pupils who will be taking GCSE Drama next year, along with some MIVs (Year 8s) were thoroughly entertained by an outstanding performance of My Neighbour Totoro on Thursday 30 April at Gillian Lynne Theatre in London’s West End. Here, Minna H (UIV) shares her review of the show:

‘My Neighbour Totoro followed the story of two sisters who move to the countryside with their father while their mother is in hospital. As they adjust to their new surroundings, they begin to discover unusual and magical creatures, including Totoro, who becomes an important part of their adventure.

The set was incredible, using creative design and staging to bring the story to life. It was really interesting to see the play performed live in such an impressive theatre. Our favourite part was when we first saw Totoro himself, an absolutely massive furry puppet controlled by the cast.

After the show, we went to Pizza Express, which was a great end to the trip – the food was delicious, everyone loved it and was definitely a favourite part of the evening. Thank you so much to the staff who organised the trip and we hope you enjoyed as much as we did.’
