On Wednesday, pupils from LIV to UIV were lucky enough to take part in a Drama Scholars’ Workshop with the director and actor, Arlo, from Quirky Bird Theatre. We began the day with a series of warm-up games that linked closely to the themes we were exploring. We then examined the work of Frantic Assembly and DV8, two theatre companies whose styles complemented each other effectively.
During the workshop, we learned about synchronisation and how to use movement creatively within drama. Applying these techniques, we created a short performance piece that incorporated a range of dramatic elements, from coordinated movement to Laban techniques. This involved using different types of movement, such as ‘dab’ or ‘slash’, to help establish the mood when a specific emotion was not immediately clear.
Overall, it was an incredibly rewarding experience where we were able to apply what we’d learned in a final performance.
Director of Drama, Mr Ellis, commented: ‘The group created an inventive, movement-based sequence that was great to watch, particularly as it showcased how well our LIV, MIV and UIV students collaborated.’
