On Sunday, four St Mary’s Calne girls travelled to Beaufort Polo Club for their first polo lesson.
The girls, who had varying levels of riding experience, quickly picked up the basics of the sport. After 45 minutes of learning how to hold the mallet, strike the ball and understand the rules of the game, they were ready to play their first chukka.
The match was closely contested, with goals scored at both ends. There were some excellent steals, strong defensive play, and plenty of determination as the girls put their new skills into practice. It was fantastic to see their confidence grow throughout the session.
‘The polo training was really challenging and fun. I enjoyed the part where my teammate and I supported each other in order to get the ball in control between the team. Polo is a nice sport and I would like to invest more time in it.’ Vicky B
Having the opportunity to learn at such a prestigious venue was a real privilege, and the girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The session was a fantastic introduction to the sport and, we hope, the beginning of a bright future for polo at St Mary’s Calne.
