St Mary’s Calne is a community of readers, dreamers, thinkers, creators, and writers; we treasure the opportunity to escape into new worlds and explore subjects that inspire us the most.
This morning, our World Book Day celebrations began in Chapel, where Emily I (Lower Sixth) spoke about the National Year of Reading and the purpose of World Book Day. She invited Mr Coombs, Mr Griffin, Mrs Wilson and students, Bea L (LV) and Summer H (MIV), to share their favourite books, and it was wonderful to hear how these stories captured their imaginations and why they meant so much to them. Thank you to everyone who took part and spoke so thoughtfully about the books they love.
Enjoy these photos of our Chapel speakers, together with other pupils and staff, including Head Mrs Wakefield, who have kindly shared a mix of favourite books and recent enjoyable reads.
In this National Year of Reading, our school is celebrating the simple joy of reading for pleasure. Stories spark imagination, build empathy and inspire curiosity – qualities at the very heart of our Calne Culture.
We encourage our community to visit the much-loved library, an award-winning space and the perfect place to explore new ideas and find a quiet moment to become completely absorbed in reading.
Here’s to the magic of a good book.
