4th Calne (St Mary’s Calne) Guides and Rangers have had another busy term completing badges in and out of meetings – learning new skills, developing links with the wider district and trying new activities.

Before Half Term we celebrated the Lunar new year, creating firework art using glow in the dark paint. We also completed the Be Prepared interest badge and the Influence Stage 5 Skills Builder: this meant that two girls achieved their theme awards in the Take Action theme.

After Half Term we attending the District Thinking Day celebration with the wider District units of Rainbows, Brownies and Guides. The girls who had been to camp the year before were excited to see some of their friends from this time who attend the unit in town. They completed a variety of activities, coming from around the world include Caribbean carnival masks and Singapore skyscrapers in the form of spaghetti and marshmallow towers.

Two of our girls we presented with their Guide Bronze award by the District Commissioner: the first ever for unit. Well done to Lilly and Liliana, both in MIV: to achieve this they had to get two theme awards which means an interest badge, a skills builder and 4 hours worth of activities from the same theme which is not an easy thing to do.

Next term the girls have planned a variety of activities included DIY, tents and food activities. We are also preparing for Guide camp with the town unit once more, this time at Cowley Adventure in south Gloucestershire.
