Congratulations to our UV (Year 11) students for an exceptional round of GCSE examinations.

An outstanding 63% of all examinations taken were awarded grade 8 or 9 with 37% achieving the top grade of 9.

In total, 82% of GCSE examinations taken were awarded grades 9-7 (equal to A*-A in the previous grading system). This is an excellent achievement that the girls should be very proud of and a testament to their hard work and determination.

The value added for the GCSE results was a highly impressive +1.5, meaning that on average each pupil achieved over one grade higher than expectation.

An extraordinary set of four girls have achieved straight 9s across all their GCSE subjects. Congratulations to Emma L, Ellie P, Mona P and Ada R on their outstanding achievement! The Art Department has had an exceptional year, with eight students being amongst the top performers of all candidates submitted to OCR’s GCSE Art and Design: Fine Art. Congratulations to Sofia D, Eliza F, Zara F, April N, Quitterie P, Mona P, Sophie T and Amy W on their brilliant achievement. The GCSE exam artwork is now proudly displayed throughout the school for everyone to enjoy.

Twins, Matilda and Poppy, achieved an impressive 15 x 9s and 5 x 8s between them! We are also extremely proud of our Foundation Scholar*, Baylee, who did excellently across all her GCSEs.
Deputy Head Academic, Michael Smyth, commented:

‘This year’s I/GCSE results are truly exceptional. Our pupils have worded incredibly hard to achieve such high standards in their academic work. In addition to the 37% of results graded at a 9, 82% 9-7 and average grade of 7.7, I was delighted to see a value added score of +1.5. This means, on average, each pupil achieved one and a half grades higher than expected. This cohort should be really pleased with their efforts and their I/GCSE results are testament to St Mary’s ‘Win Your Own Race’ philosophy.’

* Foundation Scholarships are offered to gifted and talented pupils who require financial support to join St Mary’s Calne.
