2019:
Congratulations to the girls at St Mary’s Calne on an excellent set of A Level results, with 64% of the entries graded A*-A, an impressive 23% graded A* and 45% of the girls being awarded all A*/As. In addition, all of the girls who held Oxbridge offers secured their places and almost 90% gained their first choice of university.
Special mention must go to Vicky Shi who achieved 5 A*s and will be reading Physics and Philosophy at
St Edmund Hall, Oxford and to 11+ Foundation Scholar*, Zara Collier Baggs, who was awarded 4 A*s and will be reading History and Economics at Worcester College, Oxford. Congratulations also to Georgina McLintock and Charmaine Li, who were both awarded 3 A*s.
Head Girl, Hannah Barber and her Deputies, Charka Stout and Sylvia Rutherford achieved all A*/As to secure their places to read Classics at Worcester College Oxford (Hannah), History at Lady Margaret Hall Oxford (Charka) and History and Ancient History at Exeter (Sylvia). Many congratulations also to Oxbridge applicants, Frances Arnold, who will be reading History and Modern Languages at Trinity College, Cambridge, and Anna Hastie, who will be studying Classics at Oxford.
St Mary’s Calne girls will be going on to study at a range of leading Russell Group universities including: Oxford, Cambridge, Birmingham, Bristol, Durham, Exeter, Leeds, LSE, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Southampton, St Andrews and UCL. The girls will be studying a diverse range of subjects, ranging from Architecture, Biomedical Sciences, Classics, Economics, Geography and History to Medicine, Modern Languages, PPE and Zoology. Every year a few St Mary’s girls also choose to study abroad and this year Eliza Glover has been accepted to read Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation at the prestigious Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy, University of Southern California.
At St Mary's we pride ourselves on the fact that our university support is bespoke for every student. Girls' needs and aspirations are all very different, but we will support them individually to find the right university path. The most important issue is to ensure that the course they choose will ensure academic success and genuine enjoyment. The majority of our girls go directly to university after leaving St Mary's but a number will gain deferred entry on their course as they have exciting plans to widen their work experience, explore new cultures and broaden their outlook. Others will decide to apply post A Level, once they have secured their grades, as they want to be sure of selecting the correct degree course. In addition, several students each year will decide to study a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design before deciding which Higher Education path to follow.
