We were delighted to welcome visiting Year 6 girls from a range of different Prep and Primary Schools to the Delscey Burns Theatre on Tuesday 23rd November for a day of musical theatre fun with our ‘Musical Mega-Mix’ Workshop.

The girls were thrilled to learn three songs from the hit musicals Mamma Mia! The Musical, Matilda the Musical, and Oliver! Throughout the day, they worked on a range of vocal techniques with Bethan Dudley Fryar, St Mary’s Director of Vocal Studies, and choreography to accompany each song with Dance and Drama Specialist, Robyn Caldwell.

Over a delicious lunch in Top Hall, they met with current St Mary’s Music and Drama Scholars. The girls gave our visitors a taste of life at St Mary’s, explaining all the different opportunities they have to explore and develop their passion for Music, Dance and Drama.

After further rehearsals in the afternoon, and a special visit to the Music School and a play on the African drums, the stage was set for the girls to showcase their performance to their parents. Three current St Mary’s girls - Elowen, Izzy and Hannah, kicked off proceedings, singing beautifully and showcasing some of the incredible vocal talent we have here at St Mary’s.

This was followed by a grand finale - the visiting girls performing their three routines they had worked on throughout the day. They did brilliantly, and the audience was clearly delighted. Following the performance, the girls, their parents, and St Mary’s staff enjoyed an afternoon tea, featuring special ‘musical note’ cupcakes!

What an outstanding group of girls! We thoroughly enjoyed creating an energetic and committed showcase, proving that acting, singing and dancing brings talent together. It was a fusion of talent and fun.’ said Mrs Dudley Fryar. ‘Congratulations girls - a terrific day!’
