There was a lot of excitement in the build up to the Staff v Leavers lacrosse game on 27th April, with some UVI comparing it to the 100m final in the Olympics or the World Cup Football final! The staff approached their warm-up casually with not much movement but lots of intent.

The game started with lots of possession from the Staff Team, but Phine in goal kept them from converting. At the other end of the field, the staff goalie, ‘Hector the Rejector’ thwarted the UVI attempts as their accuracy let them down. The deadlock was broken from solid midfield play from the staff, Mrs Weeden finding Mr Hayes with a well-placed bounce shot to beat Phine. The Staff Team would then take a good 3-0 lead with the UVI chasing the game. Amy stepped up with a goal for the Leavers to start the comeback. The use of speed in midfield allowed the youthful Leavers' Team to claw their way back to level the game at 3-3.

The deadlock was eventually broken by a solo run from Mr Curran (making a late cameo appearance), taking the ball from defence all the way into attack with an unorthodox style before placing his shot past Phine in goal. This play enthused the Staff Team, especially in midfield, with Mr Waldron using his dazzling skills and Mr John…..somewhere in midfield. The Leavers in midfield tried their best but, with goals going in from the Staff Team, they could not compete with the experience of game play. Although the Leavers managed to keep within one goal at the end, the Staff Team was pleased to hear the final whistle and take the win 5-4.
