The Wiltshire Schools' County Athletics Championships took place on 11th June on a bright and gusty day at the County Ground, Swindon. There were 16 girls from St Mary’s representing the North Wiltshire Area across 22 events, achieving their area representation honours.
There were a large number of podium performances from both track and field:
LIV (Yr 7) Girls: Lily 2nd in Javelin, and Jade 3rd in the Final of 150m.
Junior Girls: Sophia 3rd in Shot Put, Hesper 3rd in Javelin, Tabitha 2nd in Discus, and Sophie T. running a great race in the 200m Final to come 1st (28.4 secs).
Inter Girls: Dora 3rd in Shot Put, Arabella 3rd in Discus, and Ella 2nd in Discus. Martha ran well in the Yr 7 Girls 100m sprint, securing her a place in the Final where she came 6th, and in doing so ran a Personal Best and broke the LIV school record from 2006 (14.06 secs), Well done Martha!
Well done to all of the girls who competed. It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm and standard that our athletes are showing in athletics, with a lot of juniors showing great potential for the future.
Congratulations to Sophie T. who has been selected for the Wiltshire team to compete at the South West Schools Championships in Exeter this Saturday 18th June. Good Luck Sophie!
