Cabaret tripOn Saturday 23rd September, our Cabaret leads went to see Cabaret at the New Wimbledon Theatre, along with the creative team of Miss Darling, Mrs Fryar, Mrs Cavill and Miss Dickinson. The show starred Will Young as the Emcee and Lousie Rednapp as Sally Bowles. Will Young was excellent as the Emcee, with a childlike and innocent take on the character.

The choreography in the show was interesting, with many new ideas for staging iconic numbers. Mein Herr was staged on a spinning set of steps which were danced upon and wheeled around simultaneously. Particularly memorable was a sinister version of Tomorrow Belongs To Me in which the Emcee became puppeteer and manoeuvred the dancers on long strings. While Louise Rednapp mastered the song and dance, we felt that she struggled to find the character of Sally Bowles. The production felt very modern and, although incredibly spectacular, the girls felt that it did not evoke the time period of Berlin in 1930. There were lots of ideas to take from this production and overall it left us feeling confident and inspired, in readiness for our own rendition in October.
