Music Scholars hit the right notes in annual concert

On Friday 10th May our Music Scholars presented their annual concert to a supportive audience of family and friends in Chapel.

There were some excellent offerings from our woodwind players, with Iona, Candy, Clemency and Ila all impressing in a variety of genres. Among our string players, Lauren performed an item by Schumann on her viola, while we were treated to a moving piece on the cello by Natasha, a movement from Bach’s Double Violin Concerto by Holly and Shubha, as well as an entire Sonata by Sienna on the double bass.

Our 12 vocalists - Tessa, Evie, Isabella, Iris, Izzy, Elan, Charlotte, Amy, Flora, Sophie, Hannah G and Emily - were also on great form, providing entertainment in every style imaginable, from English and Italian arias to music theatre via Stevie Wonder!

The evening ended with a bang, thanks to one of our own Sixth Form pupils, Kirsten, who performed her own Blues Composition with the help of Hannah B on the drum kit, Sienna on electric double bass and Mr Totney on the piano. There were even some ‘written-down improvisations’ for each performer to enjoy.

The standard of performance was once again extremely high and the waves of will power could be clearly felt throughout. We also extend our thanks to the staff and students of the Art Department whose wonderful work was on display in the chapel. Congratulations to all the girls involved, along with thanks to their teachers, for the hard work and preparation which led to such an enjoyable evening, and to Mrs Black for all her help behind the scenes.
