Swimming has gone from strength-to-strength over the last two years at St Mary’s. Swimming is delivered through our PE curriculum and each of the Fourth Forms has a double lesson per week where stroke technique, Synchronised Swimming, Water Polo and Life-Saving skills are taught. Kayaking and Water Aerobics are also popular options.
LIV and MIV girls have compulsory Swimming training one evening per week and the number of senior girls opting to train continues to increase. Fixtures are made against schools such as Prior Park, Stonar and Godolphin and St Mary’s host all of the local Inter-Schools’ Swimming League galas. We also enter the ESSA Relays at Millfield School in the Autumn Term.
St Mary’s recently received a visit from Chris Cook, double Olympian and double Commonwealth swimmer, who delivered and technical lesson on breaststroke and a motivational talk on how to succeed.
