ESAA Track & Field Cup brings out the best in our Athletes

Round 1 of the ESAA Track & Field Cup took place on Wednesday, 8th May at the County Ground, Swindon. Despite the miserable weather, all athletes performed very well, with both teams finishing 2nd to South Wilts Grammar out of the seven schools.

U15/U14s 

This was an excellent performance from the Inter Girls' Team, who finished 2nd out of seven schools. Each individual worked hard to score well in their events and boost the overall points. There were some tricky conditions with heavy rain in the afternoon, but that did not deter the team.  Top points scorer was India with 43 points for her 300m and Long Jump.

Junior Girls
The Junior girls Athletics Team were determined to put in good performances. The opening events were on the track, Harriet ran 1500m in 5 mins 17 to score 23 points with Dora getting 18 points for her 5 mins 45. Hebe had a great run in 300m to score 15 points for 51.8 seconds. Eva ran her opening 800m of the season in a commendable 2 mins 53 (17 points) and Helena ran a PB in 2 mins 58. There were encouraging performances from Faith in 200m (32.5) as well as Claire and Ruby in hurdles. The afternoon programme of field events was significantly affected by the amount of heavy rain. The High Jump was our highest scoring event with Dora (1m 17) and Hebe ( 1 m 23) jumping strongly. Harriet achieved 15 points for her 3m 98 in Long Jump to achieve the highest individual points score of our team with 38 points. Ruby performed well in her Long Jump debut with 3m 39. There were strong performances in throws from Laura and Helena in Shot Putt, Marybi and Faith in Discus and Eva and Abi in Javelin. The day concluded with the 4 x 100m relay and our final 5 points. We will now go through to the B Regional Final in June.
