My name is Naomi Litvack and I am delighted to be working at St Mary’s Calne as the Artist in Residence for 2018/19.
I am primarily a painter of landscapes in oils. I studied Fine Art at Manchester School of Art, graduating in 2014. After that came an MFA in Fine Art at Belfast School of Art in 2016-18. I have exhibited nationally and internationally and have travelled widely with my work, including an Erasmus exchange with Akademie der Bildenden Kunst in Munich and a residency with the AIR Karelia Programme in Petrozavodsk, Russia.
This year, I was shortlisted for Bloomberg New Contemporaries, and I plan to paint and exhibit further over the coming months, as well as sharing my skills and knowledge with the pupils. We have enjoyed a wonderful start to the year thus far, and it has been an excellent introduction to teaching for me, with much activity this term already. I have loved teaching Life Drawing and oil painting to the LVI (Year 12), taking the Staff Art Club, running Remembrance Poppy-making workshops with the Fourth Form, attending a fascinating photography lecture from the Art Society, and much more. There are exciting events on the horizon, too, including our upcoming student and Alumnae show, 'A Sense of Place', at the prestigious Mall Galleries in London in November.
I feel very at home already, thanks to a warm welcome from the staff and constant enthusiasm from the girls. There are many exciting things in the pipeline for the Art Department, and I enthusiastically look forward to working more with our talented students in the year ahead at St Mary’s Calne.
