Girls celebrate excellent A Level results!

Girls at St Mary’s Calne have very good reason to celebrate, following another set of superb A Level results, with 15 girls achieving straight A*s and As and over half the entries graded A*-A.

All of the girls who held offers for Oxbridge were successful in gaining their places, not only meeting but exceeding the extremely high grades required. Head Girl, Charlotte Paterson secured her place to read Mathematics at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge with 4 A*s and Eleanor Swire, who joined St Mary’s in the Sixth Form, was also awarded 4 A*s and will be studying Human Sciences and Political Science at Homerton College, Cambridge.  Heading for Oxford University is Cynthia Li, who, with 4 A*s and 1 A, will be reading Mathematics and Statistics at Somerville College, while local girls Isobel Smith (1 A*, 2 As) from Tytherton Lucas, Wiltshire, will be reading History at Lady Margaret Hall and Laura Steel (2 A*s, 1 A) from Calne goes on to study Biological Sciences at Magdalen College.  Isobel and Laura are also to be congratulated on achieving A*s in their Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

Headmistress, Dr Felicia Kirk, commented “I am delighted and very proud of all the girls who have worked so hard to achieve these results.  So many of the girls have not only met, but by far exceeded the extremely high grades required to secure their university places, and I am sure they will flourish as they move on to the next stage of their education. The girls at St Mary’s enjoy and achieve so much in all areas of school life – sport, art, drama and music - and participate in so many extra-curricular activities which enrich their time here, so it is especially rewarding to see them attaining these fantastic academic results.  I would like to thank the teachers and staff who have supported and encouraged the girls exceptionally well and wish the girls the very best of luck as they leave St Mary’s.”

St Mary’s Calne Sixth Form is flourishing with 110+ girls and the school offers pupils a top class academic and  all-round education with excellent facilities, including a new Sixth Form Centre, Sports Centre with indoor pool, fitness suite and gym, full-size astro, a purpose-built theatre, Art Studio and much more.
