Government and Politics students visit the Houses of Parliament

On 28th November, the LVI Government and Politics students enjoyed an excellent day at the Houses of Parliament, hosted by James Gray MP. He met us in Westminster Hall at 11.15am and kindly gave up his morning to personally guide us around the House of Commons, the House of Lords, the Crypt Chapel, the main lobbies and the terrace overlooking the Thames.

Through personal anecdotes, coupled with 20 years' experience of the workings of the Palace of Westminster, James Gray MP brought the A Level Government and Politics syllabus to life. Being shown round by an MP allowed the girls to have access to parts of Parliament only accessible due to his presence. He answered all the girls' questions with honest and relevant information.

To conclude the day, James Gray MP secured tickets to the front row of the public gallery of the House of Commons for the afternoon. The girls were consequently able to observe the House in session with the Government Minister for Communities and Local Government, Sajid Javid, fielding questions from other MPs including Michael Gove MP and Angela Eagle MP.
