'Music has charms that soothe the savage beast, and comedy perhaps the exact opposite. When you combine the two, you get something truly special.' Mrs Dudley Fryar

On Friday 19th May, we enjoyed a wonderful evening of musical and comical entertainment in Delscey Burns Theatre with Rory Bremner. Mrs Bethan Dudley Fryar opened the evening as ‘Rory’s warm up act’ with a collection of beautiful pieces of music and song – performed by Old Girl Hannah, Amelia (LVI), visiting Director of the Cirencester Barn Theatre, Iwan Lewis, Mrs Dudley Fryar and accompanied by Mr Adam Staines. We were treated to wonderful songs including I’ve got you under my skin by Cole Porter, Gershwin’s I’ll build a stairway to paradise and the beautiful duet All I ask of you from Phantom of the Opera. The audience were captivated by the beauty of the pieces and entertained by Mrs Dudley Fryar's amusing introductions to each piece.

After an interval in the early evening sunshine, guests returned to their seats for the main event! Rory took to the stage with his usual charisma and quickly took on the characters of many political personalities – in particular Mr Donald Trump and Mr Boris Johnson. We enjoyed a fantastic array of sharp political wit and comment – ranging across many areas of current and historical news and events. The evening concluded with questions from the audience, including a discussion around Deputy Head Girl, Hannah's (UVI) blog 'Puppets and Politics' which explores the fascinating topic of the internet and social media and the impact they have on the practice of politics (to read the full blog, click here).

The evening was raising money for the new Sports Complex and Rory encouraged all the audience to join in with the fundraising game, ‘Heads and Tails’, at the end of the evening.  We are very pleased to confirm that we expect to have raised £10,000 from the event.

We are hugely grateful to Rory and all the performers for a truly uplifting evening!
