Girls enjoy a 'Wellbeing evening'

On Tuesday 27th June, Mrs Foreman, in liaison with Sophie P. and the student Wellbeing Committee, hosted a Wellbeing evening for all the Fourth Form and LV pupils.

During the evening, the pupils learnt how to defend themselves and also how to produce a healthy meal, using raw ingredients and a spiralizer.

‘A range of fun activities took place during the Wellbeing evening, including a talk on Nutrition and Healthy Eating, Japanese Martial Arts, Yoga, making friendship bracelets, as well as a drop-in mentoring session with some of the LVI girls. Many of the LV who took part in the Martial Arts said that they surprised themselves by thoroughly enjoying it. The majority of the LIV girls took part in the drop- in session with the older (LVI) girls, where we discussed a wide range of topics from academics, life in Sixth Form, friendships and we also discussed any worries raised. I believe the younger girls found this really useful as they had lots of questions about our experience at St Mary’s and I would like to make this a termly event with all the years. During this session, the pupils wrote on a leaf something in school that they were grateful for and hung the leaf on a Gratitude Tree. Ideas ranged from Mrs Hayes, their day Housemistress to food, friends and family and their teachers. Overall, it was a really fun and enriching evening raising the profile and importance of Wellbeing across the school'.

Nutrition Talk and Food Demonstration
'This activity was all about making healthy food choices. Sam, a Nutritionist, talked about how she battled an auto immune disease which she controlled by changing her diet. She informed us about gut bacteria and how removing sugary breakfasts can reduce cravings for sugar during the day, how some fats are good for you and about how making the right food choices is important in life. She gave a demonstration of how to make courgetti (courgette noodles) using a spiralizer and gave us some healthy recipes to try out as well as bringing along some healthy food she had prepared for us to sample'.
