On Thursday 4th May we hosted our annual Oxbridge Information evening for girls in the UV and LVI who are interested in applying to Oxford and Cambridge Universities.
On 28th April, James Gibbs delivered a talk to parents on Mindfulness and Wellbeing which was attended by over 40 parents.
On Thursday 27th April, all the LIV and MIV girls set off on their annual Challenge and Adventure (CAA) Walk and Camp.
This term, seven girls, with a wide range of experience, have taken advantage of the opportunity to play golf each week at the magnificent Bowood Golf Club.
On arrival in Florence, the LVI History of Art group, accompanied by Mrs McMahon and Dr Wickson, were met with glorious sunshine and a sense that spring, if not summer had arrived early.
Last Sunday (30th April), watching the Parisian demonstrators of all political persuasions as they grouped in Place de la Nation and Place de la République took on a particular relevance: only a few weeks ago the UVI History of Art group, Mrs McMahon and I had been based in our hotel which was minutes away on the Rue de Faubourg Saint-Antoine.
The LIV and MIV had their first trip as part of their 'Challenge and Adventure' programme (CAA) to Lake 32 at the Cotswold Water Park on Friday 21st April.
The Science Department were delighted to find out over the holidays that Mrs Jan McKernan's 3D model display board of the Fluid Mosaic Model (the model of the cell membrane we teach the girls in the first year of Biology A Level) in the Darwin lab had been awarded first prize in the 2017 National STEM Learning Classroom Display competition.
At the end of the Easter Term, a group of LV girls studying German paid a return visit to Bad Bederkesa in North West Germany. They participated in a range of activities including team building games, shopping, a visit to the cinema to see Die Schoene und das Biest, an art activity involving selfies, as well as enjoying a traditional German meal in the local Schloss with host families.
During the first week of the Easter holidays, 30 girls travelled to Palma with Mrs Baldwin and Mrs Thompson to take part in the pre-season tennis training at Vilas Tennis Academy in Palma Nova.
