St Mary’s Calne celebrated the start of British Science Week with a Chapel exploring the national theme ‘Exploration and Discovery’ through the science of colour.

After a few colourful bangs, some chemiluminescence and a brief explanation of prisms, Mrs Haydon showed off some UV make up before explaining how recent advances in scientific research into the wonders of iridescent butterflies and beetles has led to new photonic make up and, more excitingly, research into the development of photonic crystals as a possible replacement for computer chips. It was a fun and colourful way to start the week.
