Over Half Term, Year 12 student, Vicky, had the opportunity to attend an Engineering Skills Camp in Oxford, run by The Engineering Development Trust (EDT).
"Feeling undecided about what subject to study at university, I was very lucky to have the opportunity to attend this Engineering Skills Camp.
The organisers from EDT prepared a range of activities to help us gain better understanding about engineering, not only as an academic discipline, but also as a future career. We enjoyed a workshop on application and interviews for apprenticeships, a company visit to Jacobs Douwe Egberts in their mechanical engineering sector, and a street lighting project with the construction company, Balfour Beatty. This helped me gain some knowledge about what an engineering group in a company could be doing, which made me reconsider my degree choice. Overall, it was an interesting and valuable experience for me."
