Imperium trip

On Saturday 8th September, seven Year 12 Latin and Classical Civilisation students and three staff went to London to see Robert Harris' play Imperium at the Gielgud Theatre.

After a lovely supper at Bella Italia we made our way to the theatre. It was the last performance of this production and the actors gave it everything they had got. The play dealt with the personalities and politics of the end of the Republic and the beginning of the Empire and the events became increasingly sinister as we reached the death of Cicero at Marc Anthony's hands. The serious themes were softened with humour throughout and it was hard not to make comparisons with some of the machinations of the politicians of our present day!

This will be excellent preparation for our reading of Cicero's Second Phillipic against Marc Antony.
