On 7th March, as part of their Anatomy and Physiology studies, the Year 12 Biologists and Academic PE students spent an absorbing and fascinating afternoon in Dr Gunther Von Hagens’ world of plastination.
This successful travelling exhibition arrived in London last year and it was only appropriate that the girls were given the opportunity to experience it as part of their course. The primary goal of the exhibition is preventative healthcare and the exhibits explore the inner workings of the human body, showing the effects of healthy and unhealthy lifestyles. The body systems covered included the cardio-vascular system, the digestive system, the reproductive system, as well looking at movement and emotions. The level of science detail provided alongside each of the displays was familiar to the girls, as most of these topics have been studied this year.
Having different aspects of the A Level courses presented in such an artistic and sensitive manner was powerful as well as memorable. I suspect that a number of the girls will want to visit it again in the not too distant future.
