Girls pass Bronze DofE with flying colours

Bronze DofE 23rd JuneFour teams of LV (Year 10) girls doing their assessed Bronze DofE expeditions set off on the morning of Sunday 23rd June, prepared for sunshine and thunderstorms! Once all the teams set off in the right direction for the campsite Wild Country Assessors monitored their progress through the checkpoints.

Silver DofE MendipsOn 21st June, 22 UV Form (Year 11) girls came back after their GCSEs to complete their Silver DofE Expedition. Although this year's Silver group was slightly smaller than normal, the standard of navigation and campcraft was extremely high. 

Economists compete at the National BASE Final

Final Base EconomicsAfter an outstanding performance in the online business challenge, a team of four talented LVI (Year 12) economists qualified for the National Final of the BASE competition at the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham on Wednesday 26th June. 

Memorable Geography fieldwork trip to Tenerife

Tenerife Geography TripOn 18th June 2019, the LVI (Year 12) geographers went to Tenerife to conduct the fieldwork for our individual Non-Examined Assessment (modern day coursework). Each girl has a different NEA title and investigation, so the island was a perfect place to do our fieldwork, as it has a large variety of geographical features and areas, such as volcanoes, beaches and dunes, and coastal resorts. As the island is made from volcanic material, the trip also enabled us to learn and see some of what we will be studying next year, in the tectonic activity topic.

Successful Geography Coastal Fieldwork Trip

Dorset Fieldwork MIVOn Thursday 20th June the MIV (Year 8) girls travelled to the Dorset Coast to carry out Geography Coastal Fieldwork, consolidating work completed in the classroom. After some changeable weather earlier in the week we were blessed with dry and sunny conditions, although a little cooler and windier than normal at this time of the year.

Wonderful Week on the Isle of Wight

Isle of Wight tripDuring Donaldson Week, the MIV (Year 8) girls had a wonderful week on the Isle of Wight; it was a little damp but that did not stop the girls throwing themselves into all of the activities.

Fantastic week of Activities in Bude for Year 7s

Bude tripThe Year 7 girls had a wonderful week at Adventure International in Bude with Mrs Thompson, Miss Turley, Miss Galdes and Mrs Muir. Torrential rain occasionally added an extra dimension to the challenges, but Bude’s microclimate was on our side and the weather was often better than expected: we even had some spells of sunshine.

Biologists conduct coastal fieldwork in Devon

LVI Biology TripOn Monday 17th June, 11 biologists accompanied by Mrs McKernan, Mrs Mutch, Dr Massey and Mr Paddock travelled to Helwell Bay, Watchet on the North Devon coast to carry out fieldwork on a rocky shore ecosystem.

French Language Trip to stunning Samoens

Samoens tripThe UIV (Year 9) girls have recovered from an exciting, though rain drenched, French language trip to the Alps. In small groups they fully embraced their daily language challenges, led by local French assistants and battled the elements as they enjoyed high ropes and rafting and even swam in an icy mountain lake.
