This October, St Mary’s ran a Black History Month poster competition, where students were tasked with researching and designing a poster to showcase the history of a pre-19th-century African kingdom.
With strong competition from across the Fourth Form, the eventual winners were Myra and Rachel (both MIV - Year 8). Their poster on the Kingdom of Benin provides an excellent overview of the kingdom, as well as having a rather striking design. Wiltshire Councillor Sam Pearce-Kearney commended the winning poster and has arranged for copies to be displayed on council noticeboards around Calne. The winners will also receive a certificate and a copy of the book Windrush Child by Benjamin Zephaniah.
