On Wednesday 10th November, Grosstete enjoyed an evening full of good food and fun activities when celebrating their annual Company Supper. We decided on ‘Album Covers’ as the theme – so each girl came as a recreation of their favourite song, artist or album. We had a huge variation, from a couple of girls from LIV (Year 7) coming as Katy Perry albums, a group of UIV (Year 9) coming as the band Madness, and some of our UVI (Year 13) dressed as One Direction! The staff were very involved also, with Father Jonathan portraying an incredible David Bowie, and Mr Douglas as Sting!
We started off the evening with a lovely supper of fried chicken, provided by the catering department, which everyone enjoyed. Accompanied by a great music playlist, we then moved into Chapel to begin the activities. First was a quiz, put together by Amy, the Deputy Head of Grosstete. It challenged people’s memories and how much attention they had paid, with the questions being about everyone’s costumes, what they came as, and facts about the bands or albums.
Then, a scavenger hunt around school, where our Company 'families' had to locate various album covers with letters on the back. When they had successfully found all of them, there was then a puzzle to unscramble the letters to produce the name of a famous artist. The winning team solved it fairly quickly – the answer being ‘Pink Floyd’.
To round off the evening there was a prizegiving ceremony – the winners of each activity plus awards for best costume, amongst which were Lucy (LIV) as Abba, a group of UIV as Madness and Phine (UVI) as ‘Ophelia’ by The Lumineers, complete with her extravagant silver headdress.
A fantastic evening was had by all, everyone enjoyed spending time together as a Company and some friendly competition too!
