On Monday 23rd January, we celebrated Chinese New Year with a festive supper with traditional treats. Everyone dressed in red to symbolise good luck for the beginning of the Year of the Rabbit.
Chinese New Year is is widely celebrated with food, family and festivities in many places, including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and amongst Chinese communities all over the world.
Students were treated to Chinese sweets, snacks and fortune cookies, kindly organised by the UVI Mandarin language students, Sylvie and Farley, with uplifting traditional music playing in the background.
We wrapped up the occasion with a fun game. A positive sense of competition thrived as Mrs Mitchell and the UVI Mandarin students led Da Feng Chui (The Big Wind Blows) which is also known as a Chinese version of 'Musical Chairs!' We all had a great laugh!
Overall, being able to gather together to celebrate the Lunar New Year was a lot of fun.
We wish everyone in the St Mary's Calne community a very prosperous and happy Year of the Rabbit!
