Last Tuesday's Sixth Form Lecture was from Elise Downing, who spoke about her 'lap of Great Britain', the 10-month long run along the entire British coastline.
To welcome Elise Downing, before her talk the UV Sport Scholars and a few A Level PE students were able to share some time with her over a lovely supper. We had the chance to ask some individual questions and learn more about Elise's background. After some delicious quiche and cake, we headed over to Chapel to hear more of her amazing journey.
It was inspirational to hear all the ups and downs of her 5000-mile run around the British coastline. Taking around 10 months, she met so many people who were kind to her along the way. She was very grateful to her parents who dropped in to visit her at various points along her route with clean, dry kit, which made certain days more bearable.
One thing that will stay with us is that she was told to 'never give up on a bad day' and she found those words kept her going when it was tough. Her recommendation was to try and walk the South West Coast Path if we ever get the chance, as it was one of the most scenic parts of her journey and will forever stay with her.
